    March 2020 - Newsletter 241

    This month's newsletter is packed full with details of the the numerous activities the children have participated in including International Week, new caterers, Friends of Someries movie night, improving site security, sporting events, maths competitions, installation of new playground equipment and outdoor gym, bikeability cycle training for Year 5, Year 3's visit to St Francis' Church as well as winners of our our attendance and golden awards as well as value role models. There is also a calendar of events for the remainder of the academic year.

    This month's newsletter has details of the number of awards we have received for our work with the children in different aspects of their education, new school caterers, reward trips, tree planting, sports, bridge building, Young Voices, RE week highlights and 3 Draco's class assembly. There is also information about the events taking place during international week w/c 10 February.

    The newsletter for this month has lots of information about the numerous activities that took place before the Christmas holidays including the Year 3 nativity play, Year 5 pantomine, three music performances, Christmas jumper day, Year 6 craft sale, pizza making, baking sessions and a visit to the local pantomine. There is also information on Mr Finch's parent and carer learning information session due to take place on 23 January (9:00-10:30am) - all parents/carers invited.

    Relationships and Sex Education Policy - DRAFT FOR CONSULTATION

    You will be aware that, as a part of your child’s educational experience at Someries Junior School, we aim to promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive taught programme of Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education that gives our young people the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live healthy, safe, productive and fulfilled lives, both now and in the future.
    From September 2020, the Department for Education is making Relationships Education and Health Education compulsory in all state-funded schools. If you would like to find out more, make any comments or provide feedback on this draft policy, please contact the PSHE Coordinator, Miss Sadaq, in writing. Closing date for feedback is Monday 16th March 2020.

    Caterlink

    From half term onwards, we are pleased to announce the school will be working with a new catering partner, Caterlink. Pupil food-tasters helped us select this firm from the five caterers who sought our business. This new venture will provide better food and a better dining experience for pupils. Attached is some introductory information from Caterlink together with a special diet/allergy form that needs to be completed and returned before Friday 7 February 2020. Please complete and return the reply slip and completed special diet/allergy form even if your child does not have school meals at present.     RELAY Protocol - Domestic Abuse Notifications

    Attached is a letter informing you that that the school is part of a jointly run scheme between Luton Council, Bedfordshire Police and our School, called RELAY.  The school has been asked by the local authority to inform parents/carers that the school is part of this local scheme which is in response to the national scheme ‘Operation Encompass’ (www.operationencompass.org).

    School Uniform - Change of PE Kit & New Uniform Stockist

    Attached is a copy of a letter that will be sent home regarding school uniform. From September, the school will no longer sell uniform. The school does have limited stocks still available for purchase, however, Rickys Fashions in the Mall Market Hall will now be our uniform stockist.
    After listening to parental feedback, we will be changing our PE uniform - see attached letter for details.
